Niklas Savander
Executive Vice President, Markets, Nokia
Starting January 1, 2008, Niklas Savander is Executive Vice President of the Services unit. He is a member of the Nokia Group Executive Board, a position held since 2006.
He joined Nokia in 1997 and has held a variety of senior business management, strategy, sales and marketing positions covering the device and network businesses. In his previous role as Executive Vice President, Technology Platforms, he was responsible for the centralized R&D execution, software and technology management as well as product creation processes across the company.
In 2003, Niklas was appointed Senior Vice President, Mobile Devices Business Unit, Enterprise Solutions.
He is the deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tamfelt Oyj and a Member of the Board and secretary of Waldemar von Frenckells Stiftelse. On April 1, 2007 Savander was also appointed as a Member of the Board of Nokia Siemens Networks.
Prior to joining Nokia, he spent nine years with Hewlett-Packard in Finland, Germany and Switzerland. During this time, he held roles ranging from the position of account manager to leading the company’s Technical Systems Business for Europe, Middle East & Africa.
He holds a Master’s degree in Science from the Helsinki University of Technology and a Master’s of Business Administration from the Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration in Helsinki. He is fluent in Swedish, English, German and Finnish.
Niklas was born August 4, 1962, in Helsinki, Finland. He is married and has two children. And he enjoys playing and refereeing ice-hockey, telemark skiing and golf.
Anssi Vanjoki
Executive Vice President, Mobile Solutions, Nokia
Anssi Vanjoki is an Executive Vice President at Nokia, and as of July 1, 2010, will head the new Mobile Solutions Unit. In the role, Anssi will be responsible for Nokia’s high-end mobile computer and smartphone portfolio. Based on both the MeeGo and Symbian software platforms respectively, these devices will be tightly integrated with Nokia's Internet services to increase the combined value for consumers. He has been a member of the Nokia Group Executive Board since 1998.
Highly respected across the industry, Anssi has been a visionary force in Nokia's efforts to address the markets for mobile devices and services. His work has focused on developing the Nokia brand and positioning the company as the worlds of mobility, computing and the Internet have converged.
Anssi joined Nokia in 1991, taking on the role of Vice President, Sales, Nokia Mobile Phones. In 1994, he became Senior Vice President, Nokia Mobile Phones Europe and Africa. In 1998, he was made Executive Vice President, Nokia Mobile Phones Europe and Africa. In addition, in 1999, he took responsibility for Nokia's Digital Convergence Unit and, in 2002, also headed up the Business Unit Management. From 2004, he served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of Multimedia, with overall responsibility for the Nokia Nseries range of smartphones as well as Nokia services. Most recently, Anssi was General Manager of the Market Unit within Nokia, a position he held from January 2008 until assuming his current role.
Anssi is the chairman of the board of Amer Sports Corporation, the sporting goods group, and a member of the board of Sonova Holding AG, a leading provider of hearing healthcare solutions. He is a Knight, 1st Class, of the Order of the White Rose of Finland and Commander of the Order of the White Rose of Finland.
Prior to joining Nokia, he held a variety of management positions at the 3M Corporation.
Purnima Kochikar
Vice President, Forum Nokia & Developer Community, Nokia
As Vice President, Forum Nokia and Developer Community, Purnima is responsible for strategy and growth opportunities with Nokia’s third party developers to create a vibrant Nokia ecosystem. She joined Nokia in 2003 as Senior Product Manager for Multimedia Solutions in Nokia mobile phones, with previous roles as Director, Strategy and Business Development for Enterprise Solutions and Director, Market Readiness for Consumer Messaging before taking on her current role. At Nokia, Purnima has been recognized for her contributions to the mobile messaging business. Before joining Nokia, Purnima led Product Marketing for Watercove Networks, a venture funded startup acquired by Alcatel. Prior to Watercove, she held various technical and engineering management positions at Verizon. Before Verizon, Purnima founded and managed a computer services business in India, and grew the business from 5 to 500 students and tripled revenues each year for three years.
Purnima earned a MBA with honors from Harvard Business School and an MS in Computer Science from University of Maryland, where she was initiated into the Phi Kappa Phi and the Upsilon Pi Epsilon honor societies. In her spare time, Purnima serves as an advisor to technical startups, and volunteers at non-profit institutions focused on K-12 education.
Vittorio Colao
Group Chief Executive Officer, Vodafone
Vittorio Colao, aged 48, holds a Business Degree cum Laude from Bocconi University and an MBA with Honours from Harvard Business School. He spent the early part of his career working for Morgan Stanley in London, for Mondadori and for McKinsey in Italy. He was a Partner with McKinsey until 1996, working in the media, telecommunications and industrial goods sectors and was also responsible for heading the Finance practice and consultant recruitment.
Vittorio joined Omnitel Pronto Italia, Italy's second mobile operator, as Chief Operating Officer in 1996. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 1999, and Regional CEO, Southern Europe for Vodafone Group Plc. in 2001, following the acquisition of the business. He became a member of the Board of Directors of Vodafone Group Plc. in 2002 and was subsequently appointed Regional CEO for Southern Europe, Middle East and Africa in 2003.
In 2004, he left Vodafone to become Chief Executive Officer of RCS MediaGroup, the leading Italian publishing company. He returned to Vodafone Group Plc in 2006 as Chief Executive Officer, Europe and Deputy Group CEO, and as a member of the Board of Directors. Vittorio was then appointed Chief Executive of Vodafone Group Plc in July 2008. He sits on the Verizon Wireless Board in the US and Deputy Chairs Vodafone Essar in India.
Vittorio has been a Non-executive Director and member of the Remuneration Committee of RAS Insurance, then listed on the Milan stock Exchange (now merged with Allianz SE), and was previously a Non-executive Director and Chairman of the Remuneration Committee of Finmeccanica, the Italian listed defence and aerospace conglomerate. During his tenure at RCS, he was also a member of the Board and the Executive Committee of the European Oncology Institute in Milan.
Currently, he is a member of the Board of Fondazione CAF in Milan (a charity active with children under legal protection) and is also a member of the International Advisory Board of Bocconi University.
Sir Tim Berners-Lee
A graduate of Oxford University, Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web, an internet-based hypermedia initiative for global information sharing while at CERN, the European Particle Physics Laboratory, in 1989. He wrote the first web client and server in 1990. His specifications of URIs, HTTP and HTML were refined as Web technology spread.
He is the 3Com Founders Professor of Engineering in the School of Engineering with a joint appointment in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Laboratory for Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence ( CSAIL) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he also heads the Decentralized Information Group (DIG). He is also a Professor in the Electronics and Computer Science Department at the University of Southampton, UK.
He is the Director of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), a Web standards organization founded in 1994 which develops interoperable technologies (specifications, guidelines, software, and tools) to lead the Web to its full potential. He is a founding Director of the Web Science Trust (WST) launched in 2009 to promote research and education in Web Science, the multidisciplinary study of humanity connected by technology.
He is also a Director of the World Wide Web Foundation, launched in 2009 to fund and coordinate efforts to further the potential of the Web to benefit humanity.
In 2001 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society. He has been the recipient of several international awards including the Japan Prize, the Prince of Asturias Foundation Prize, the Millennium Technology Prize and Germany's Die Quadriga award. In 2004 he was knighted by H.M. Queen Elizabeth and in 2007 he was awarded the Order of Merit. In 2009 he was elected a foreign associate of the National Academy of Sciences. He is the author of "Weaving the Web"
Mary McDowell
Executive Vice President, Mobile Phones Unit, Nokia
As of July 1, 2010, Mary T. McDowell is Executive Vice President of the Mobile Phones unit. Mary is responsible for building on Nokia’s number one position in mobile phones and driving the business of Series 30 and Series 40 devices and associated services. She is also responsible for Mobile Financial Services. Mary is also a member of the Nokia Group Executive Board, a position held since 2004.
Previously, Mary was Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer, leading the Corporate Development unit. She was charged with optimizing Nokia’s strategic capabilities and future growth potential and managing certain operational elements of the company. She oversaw Corporate Strategy, Nokia Research Center, Corporate Alliances and Business Development, and Mobile Financial Services, as well as Forum Nokia & Developer Community, Compatibility & Industry Collaboration, and Nokia IT.
Mary joined Nokia in 2004 as Executive Vice President and General Manager of Enterprise Solutions, with responsibility for the development and go-to-market of Nokia’s enterprise products and solutions including Nokia Eseries mobile devices, mobility software, as well as security and mobile connectivity solutions.
In March 2010, Mary was appointed a Member of the Board of Directors of Autodesk, a world leader in 2D and 3D design, engineering and entertainment software. Fierce Wireless named Mary one of the 10 “Top Women in Wireless” in July 2008.
A 17-year veteran of HP-Compaq, Mary served for five years as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Industry-Standard Servers a multi-billion dollar business and the leader in its market. She established a successful track record in building new business and is widely respected as an industry innovator.
Mary was born on July 23, 1964. She holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois.
